Recorded in the winter of 2012-13 at his cherished Hardin County, Kentucky home, the songs are live, first takes recorded in what Moore describes as “a little room in the woods with a wobbly tape machine, a guitar, and one microphone.” He says he felt an obligation to remain true to the nature of the songs, most of them rooted in ancient oral tradition or passed down in family parlors.
